Fixed Term Research Officer - Mobile HCI - 18mThis post will support the EPSRC grant, "Bridging the Rural Divide" (EP/I001778/1). Based in the university's FIT Lab (Computer Science Department) and working with partners from the University Nottingham. The Swansea team led by Professor Jones will be using their expertise in ubiquitous computing to building novel mobile mapping interactions and related mobile and web based services; deploying and testing devices in the field; performing the associated experiments and trials, analyzing the data; and, providing blueprint documentation of mobile and service elements. Salary: approx £30k Application Deadline: 29th Jul 2010 | Interviews: Sep 2010 | Start: 1st Oct 2010 Fixed Term Research Officer - Sustainability - 36mThis post will support the EPSRC grant, "Taking on the Teenagers - Using Adolescent Energy to Reduce Energy Use" (EP/I00064X/1). Based in the university's FIT Lab (Computer Science Department) and working with partners from the Universities of Central Lancashire, Birmingham, the Institute of Education and Northumbria, it will explore ways of reducing family energy use. The Swansea team led by Professor Jones will be using their expertise in mobile and ubiquitous computing to develop novel energy sensors and displays which will be used by the teenage participants to capture and share their energy consumption, whether in terms of electricity use in the home or in the sorts of transport they use on a daily basis. Based at the Future Interaction Technology Lab, www.fitlab.eu, the researcher will be part of an internationally leading Human-Computer Interaction group within the CHI+MED project, www.chi-med.ac.uk, which is a major EPSRC funded research project that brings together researchers from UCL, Swansea University, City University and Queen Mary University of London, to improve the usability and safety of interactive medical devices. Improving the safety of interactive medical devices is a pressing area for research because even simple errors can result in incorrect treatment or patient death.
